There is no place like Revolution Books.
More than a bookstore, it is a center of revolutionary ferment—
where a re-envisioned revolutionary communism interacts and mixes it up with all the streams of progressive, radical, and revolutionary intellectual life. It’s a place to engage the whole world.
The store proceeds from an understanding that the problem in today’s world is capitalism/imperialism, it will take a revolution to get rid of this people-crushing system, socialism is much better than capitalism, and communism will be a far better world.
At the heart of Revolution Books is the work of Bob Avakian.
His radical re-envisioning of revolution and communism goes beyond even the best of previous socialist societies. His new synthesis is animating a new conversation at the store. Many nights of the week you’ll find gatherings of people from all over the city confronting the biggest questions facing humanity, from how to make revolution in the US to the past experience of socialist societies under the dictatorship of the proletariat to how can people build on these accomplishments and do better.
Revolution Books fills a great need.
Everyone confronts a world where critical thinking is under assault in academia, where religious fundamentalism is spreading like a poison throughout the Middle East and in Christian fascist movements across the U.S. There is a revolutionary bookstore in Cleveland that seeks the truth, that selects its titles based on daring to engage all of reality without a priori blinders?
The store hosts frequent discussions, film screenings, and more. Discussions range from evolution to radical theater to communist political theory.
On its communist foundation, Revolution Books offers a diverse, cutting-edge collection of books on history, politics, revolutionary theory, philosophy, science, economics, the arts, poetry, atheism, and novels.

Volunteer/Intern at Revolution Books
Everyone at this not-for-profit revolutionary bookstore is a volunteer.
This Fall, we need to expand Revolution Books.
More books, more discussions and movies, more outreach...
In order to do this, we need more volunteers and donations.
We need YOU to make this possible.
We intend to really put revolution out there in this society, so that millions of people here and around the world come to know about THIS revolution.
Here are some of the things we're working on now:
*Major Fall concert, to benefit Revolution newspaper and Revolution Books
*High School and College outreach: speaking in classes, setting up book tables,
*Distribution of Revolution newspaper
*Monthly movie nights
There are many things you can do as a volunteer:
- Design front window and store displays
- Research books/authors for readings
- Produce events
- Take Revolution Books tables to events
- Put books in order on the shelves
- Develop course book ordering with professors
- Media and promotions
- Work with customers
- Order books
- Web design/maintenance
You will be volunteering at an independent bookstore, a unique place whose reason for being is revolution. You will be working in atmosphere alive with critical thinking and political and intellectual ferment—exploring the new and the radical.
You will have the chance to interact with staff members at Revolution Books who work as a team of scientists and dreamers-- aiming to understand, and radically change, the whole world. We see the problems of the world as rising from the capitalist/imperialist system, and that it will take a revolution to change this. The most interesting and interested people come through the doors of Revolution Books every day. Come meet them, and be part of a center for a re-envisioned revolution and communism.
